The city of Hamilton monitors and provides regular updates on air quality. Pre-pandemic, Hamilton received a “good” rating regarding the city’s air quality. However, due to elevated pollution levels over several months, Hamilton fell short of being recognized for “perfect” air quality by the World Health Organization.
It is important for all residents to regularly monitor air quality reports provided by local officials. Depending on the weather, season, and congestion, a report may caution people with certain health conditions to limit their time outdoors due to poor air quality.
While the air quality has improved in the past 20 years, the city has most recently ranked 11th place among Canadian cities. So, there is room for improvement when it comes to Hamilton’s air quality.
